The Mapy.com application has completely reworked the database of marked tourist routes for all of Austria, and you will now find approximately 149 thousand kilometers of trails instead of the previous 95 thousand. The existing tourist map of Austria in Mapy.com was based on data from the OpenStreetMap project. However, according to Seznam, this data was incomplete in many areas and also contained routes that could not be confirmed as actually marked on the ground. The cartographic editorial team therefore decided not to adopt the Austrian network and to create it entirely anew. Mapy.com added over 50 thousand kilometers of routes in Austria For each route, the editorial team verified its existence, course, and marking method, and then redrew it. The result is a separate dataset that now contains approximately 149 thousand kilometers of marked hiking trails – compared to roughly 95 thousand kilometers from the original data. Moreover, thanks to its natural wealth, Austria is a popular destination not only for Czechs but also for Poles and Germans,” explains Mapy.com product manager Jakub Zmrzlík. You’ll appreciate the improvements especially on hikes The new tourist network will be reflected across the entire service – you will see it in the map background, in search results, and when planning routes, and it will also become part of offline maps. This will be especially appreciated in the mountains, where you rely on markings the most. Furthermore, the Austrian maps include a vast database of points of interest with almost a million places, so you can zoom in on the map in detail and plan your route directly within it. The data will continue to be supplemented thanks to editorial checks and suggestions from users themselves.
