Meta showed the future! New virtual reality glasses will take your breath away, while the price is reasonable

The main criticism of virtual reality glasses has been repeated for years: they are heavy and after an hour of wearing them, your neck hurts. Meta is now responding with the Meta VR Glasses model, which weighs 100 grams — roughly half the weight of typical smartphones.

Weight redeemed by a cable

However, it’s not a miracle. The glasses are connected by a cable to an external battery module, which lasts for about three hours of content viewing or work. The electronics and battery have thus moved from the head elsewhere — comfort for the neck, complications for movement.

The displays are OLED micro-panels with a resolution referred to as 5K and Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and IMAX Enhanced certifications. However, Meta did not specify the resolution per eye, so it’s unclear whether it’s counted together or separately. At least the figure of 37 pixels per degree is known — decent for a consumer device, but professional models achieve over fifty.

Keyboard projected onto the table

The most interesting feature is the virtual keyboard, which the glasses project onto any flat surface. This allows you to type on a tabletop while having work applications arranged around you, which you control with gestures. In addition, Meta promises 75 games adapted for gesture control and a Hologram Calling feature that places an avatar calling from WhatsApp or Zoom into your space.

Inside, the Snapdragon Reality Elite chip is at work. Meta did not reveal anything about the operating system, but given the processor used, something based on Android can be expected. Similarly, data on memory and connectivity is missing.

A year and a half of waiting

And here comes the toughest condition. The glasses are expected to cost 1,299.99 dollars, which is approximately around 27,000 Czech crowns, and will not go on sale until spring 2027. Announcing a product half a year in advance is common in this industry, but it also means that both parameters and price may change by then.
