PlayStation 6 could approach the feared price point. Sony's new console would be record-breakingly expensive Home News According to leaker Kepler_L2, PlayStation 6 could sell for over 1000 dollars The console's production cost reportedly climbed to 1000 dollars, roughly a third higher than this March For comparison: the current PlayStation 5 started at 499 dollars, roughly half Sdílejte: Adam Kurfürst Published: 29. 6. 2026 06:30 Advertisement The new generation of PlayStation consoles currently consists only of leaks, but one of them will truly chill players. According to a reliable informant, the price of PlayStation 6 could climb above the 1000 dollar mark – and by all accounts, that might not even be the final amount. PlayStation 6 Might Exceed the 1,000 Dollar Mark First, an important clarification. The mentioned 1000 dollars is not the retail price, but the so-called Bill of Materials (BoM) – meaning how much the components and assembly of the console itself cost Sony. This was pointed out by Wccftech, citing the respected leaker known as Kepler_L2, who has previously provided a lot of accurate hardware information. The actual retail price would thus be even higher. Packaging, shipping, and retailer margins are added to the manufacturing cost, so estimates for the PlayStation 6’s launch price range from 1100 to 1200 dollars. Even if Sony absorbed some of the costs, the console would likely exceed the much-feared 1000 dollar mark. Why Would the Console Cost So Much? The main reason is the rising cost of memory and storage. According to Kepler_L2, the manufacturing cost jumped by roughly a third within three months – from approximately 750 dollars this March to the current roughly 1000 dollars. Speculation about the console’s features has been ongoing for some time. According to leaks, it will house an AMD Orion chip, complemented by 30 GB of GDDR7 memory and a 1 TB SSD. The specifications were reportedly finalized long ago, so no major changes are expected. Perhaps surprisingly, a delay is not expected. Kepler_L2 claims that waiting would not help Sony – memory and storage prices continue to rise, so a later launch could make the console even more expensive. An earlier release might ultimately be better for players. For the record, these are currently leaked figures, not official Sony data. Price increases, after all, are not limited to PlayStation – we recently wrote about how Xbox consoles also became more expensive starting in August. PlayStation 6 could approach the feared price point. Sony's new console would be record-breakingly expensive Adam Kurfürst News Adam Kurfürst News Rough Price Estimate for PlayStation 6 in the Czech Republic To make the comparison clear: the current generation starts significantly lower. In the USA, Sony sells the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition for 599 dollars, the disc drive model for 649 dollars, and the most powerful PlayStation 5 Pro for 899 dollars. In the Czech Republic, consoles are slightly more expensive due to VAT. On Alza, the PlayStation 5 Digital starts from 12,690 CZK, the disc drive variant from 14,990 CZK, and the PlayStation 5 Pro is 21,990 CZK. And this is precisely why a figure around 1000 dollars frightens players. The basic PlayStation 5 launched years ago for 499 dollars, and the digital version for as low as 399 – the new generation would thus roughly double the starting price. If Sony applied a similar ratio as with the PS5 Pro, the price in the Czech Republic could be somewhere around 27,000 to 30,000 CZK. However, this is a rough estimate, and no amount has been officially confirmed yet. Would you pay over 1000 dollars for a PlayStation 6, or will you stick with the current generation?
