The Nothing brand has had watches in its offer for a long time, but exclusively under the cheaper sub-brand CMF. This is set to change: according to a leak from tipster Yogesh Brar, the company is working on its first smartwatch under the main brand and wants to introduce it in September.

Transparent design and a price under 300 dollars

The watch is expected to build on the brand’s characteristic transparent design and remain priced under 300 dollars, roughly up to CZK 6,300. This would put it in direct competition with, for example, the OnePlus Watch 4 and clearly above the level of existing CMF models, which target the budget category.

A crucial piece of information is still missing: it is not clear what system the watch will run. Both Google’s Wear OS and a proprietary solution, such as currently runs on CMF devices, are in play. The difference is key for the buyer – Wear OS means a full-fledged app ecosystem, while a proprietary system usually offers longer battery life but much poorer features. Without this information, practically nothing substantial can be said about the watch.

Timing that raises questions

The leak also mentions that the watch will be released only in a limited number of markets. This makes sense in the context of reports on the company’s status. According to a report by Digit, Nothing is preparing to exit at least 12 markets, including Japan, the Middle East, and parts of Europe, after phone sales outside India did not perform as expected.

Part of the retreat is also expected to include layoffs, which will reportedly reduce the number of employees by approximately 40 percent, with development being hit the hardest. Launching a new product category in such a situation is a bold move – and the open question remains whether the watch will even reach the Czech market and how long the company will issue updates for it.

Would you buy a watch from a brand that is currently closing markets?
