Do you finally want to replace your rubber membrane keyboard with a mechanical one, but don’t want to spend more than a few hundred? The Rapture X-RAY with Outemu Red switches and Czech layout now costs 699 CZK instead of 990 CZK as part of Black Friday. It hasn’t been cheaper since the end of January, and this Alza keyboard boasts over 20 thousand units sold and a rating of 4.6 out of 5.

Quick summary:
✅ Makes sense if you’re looking for your first affordable mechanical keyboard with a numeric keypad and Czech keycaps.
⚠️ Consider that Czech characters are not backlit, switches cannot be replaced, and there’s no macro application.
💡 At 699 CZK, it’s the cheapest since the end of January, when it cost only 6 CZK less.

Quiet Outemu Red Switches and Full 104-Key Layout

The X-RAY is a full-size wired keyboard, so you won’t miss out on the numeric keypad or arrow keys. Under the keys are linear Outemu Red switches. These have no tactile bump or click when pressed, activating according to the manufacturer with a force of 45 grams after just 2 mm, and a total travel of 4 mm. Compared to clicky Blue switches, they are quieter, but the X-RAY will not be as quiet as a membrane keyboard.

The keycaps are made with double-shot injection molding, so the legends should not wear off over time. It features a Windows key lock to prevent accidental desktop exits during gaming, as well as N-key rollover for simultaneous key presses. The RGB backlighting offers 18 effects, which you can switch using Fn key shortcuts, and you can also save your own profile. It connects to your computer with a 1.8-meter braided cable with a standard USB-A connector.

Over 20 Thousand Units Sold and 4.6 Stars

The popularity of Alza’s keyboard is evident from the e-shop’s figures. Over 20 thousand units have been sold, and 555 customers gave it a rating of 4.6 out of 5. A full five stars were awarded by 394 of them, while only 20 gave it one star. 90% of buyers recommend it, and the return rate is 2.18%.

In 214 written reviews, people most often praise the price, the pleasant key travel, and the fact that it is relatively quiet for a mechanical keyboard. For several of them, it’s their first mechanical keyboard, and they describe the transition from a membrane one as a big leap. They also appreciate that the backlighting can be set without installing an application, and the settings remain stored directly on the keyboard. This is useful, for example, on a work computer where you are not allowed to install custom software. One owner confirms that the keyboard, including function keys, also works in Linux.

Czech Characters Invisible in the Dark and No Macro Application

The most common complaint concerns the unlit Czech characters. Only the English legends are illuminated; the diacritics (hooks and accents) on the top row are grey and invisible in the dark. Some people also complain about the less legible font of secondary characters. Anyone typing in Czech in the evening without a lamp and not entirely by touch might encounter difficulties.

Although Alza mentions programmable keys in the description, customers consistently report that no macro application exists and only backlighting can be adjusted. Furthermore, the switches are soldered, so they cannot be replaced. Some users find the high keycaps uncomfortable, making wrist rest difficult without a dedicated support, while others dislike the very sensitive key press or the plastic body that flexes under stronger pressure. Several owners also describe keys that started skipping after a few months. However, the low return rate suggests that this is not a widespread issue.

Good as a First Mechanical Keyboard, but Not for Macros or Czech Typing in the Dark

At 699 CZK, the X-RAY makes sense primarily for students and aspiring gamers who want to try a mechanical keyboard for the first time without a large investment. It will also serve well in an office or with a computer where you are not allowed to install software, as everything can be set directly on the keyboard. And for those who want colorful backlighting for an affordable computer, there are plenty of effects here.

If you need macros, want to replace switches over time, or frequently type in Czech in dim light, it’s worth paying extra. We recently wrote about a Black Friday discount on the metal Rapture ECHO HE with magnetic switches, but that one is significantly more expensive. Those accustomed to low-profile laptop keys should also expect to take some time to adjust to the X-RAY’s high profile.

Do you type on a mechanical keyboard, or do you stick with a membrane one?
