Samsung failed to keep the Galaxy SmartTag 3 locator under wraps. We have an idea of what it will look like

Samsung is apparently working on the next generation of its smart location tracker. The appearance of the upcoming Galaxy SmartTag 3 has been revealed by an icon hidden in the One UI system code, suggesting it will noticeably differ from previous models.

What the Samsung Galaxy SmartTag 3 is expected to look like

In the middle of the front side, a button is apparently visible on the icon. On locators, this usually serves to ring the phone or to trigger some automation — for example, turning off lights with a single press.

Will the keychain hole disappear?

However, the most significant practical change might be hidden elsewhere: the icon lacks the keychain hole that the SmartTag 2 has built-in. Of course, it’s possible that it’s not present on a mere illustration to avoid making it unnecessarily complicated, and in reality, the new locator will offer it. Even so, its absence might suggest that users who want to attach the SmartTag 3 to a keychain will have to opt for a case.

What will the possible light ring be for?

The icon very likely also shows a light ring (the one that glows green in the image above). Even in this case, it cannot be definitively said that the icon displays it exactly as it will look in reality, but it is a variant that can certainly be considered. The ring could theoretically serve as an indicator during device pairing and could also warn of a weakening battery.

When the SmartTag 3 will be revealed

According to SamMobile, the Samsung Galaxy SmartTag 3 could be introduced later this year, likely alongside the Galaxy S26 FE phone and Galaxy Tab S12 tablets.

However, one thing will likely remain unchanged: Samsung’s locators work exclusively with Galaxy phones and tablets via the Samsung Find service (formerly SmartThings Find). iPhone or “stock” Android owners will most likely be out of luck even with the third generation.
