Samsung introduced the Galaxy Z Flip8! It's the thinnest South Korean foldable with smart features and a new processor

While the Fold series underwent the biggest transformation in its history at today’s Galaxy Unpacked in London, the foldable Galaxy Z Flip8 chose the exact opposite strategy. Samsung took last year’s Flip7, replaced the processor, added faster charging, and shed a few grams. That’s practically the end of the list of new features – and yet the price tag jumped. If you hoped for another big leap after the successful seven, this year was more of a sidestep.

The Thinnest Flip in History

The design language remained, but the proportions shifted. When unfolded, the body measures just 6.1 mm and weighs 180 grams – eight grams less than last year – making the Flip 8 the thinnest and lightest foldable Samsung has ever produced. It retains the 6.9″ internal Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 120Hz refresh rate and the successful 4.1″ external FlexWindow panel, which surrounds the dual cameras. This now transforms into a full-fledged AI interface: the Now Brief overview serves up calendar, tasks, and important information, and Gemini can be invoked via the side button or voice without opening the phone. It is available in graphite, cream, and pink, with mint being exclusive to samsung.cz.

Exynos 2600: Faster, But Not the One We Wanted

Under the hood sits a deca-core Exynos 2600 clocked at up to 3.8 GHz, complemented by 12 GB of RAM and 256 or 512 GB of storage. Compared to last year’s Exynos 2500, it promises approximately 28% higher processor performance, which is a decent intergenerational leap. However, while both new Folds received the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, the foldable has to settle for homegrown silicon. With this move, Samsung further widens the gap between “books” for demanding users and “flips” for the stylish.

Selfie Studio Yes, Fast Charging No

The camera setup remained identical down to the last pixel: a 50Mpx main sensor with optical stabilization and 2x crop zoom from the chip, a 12Mpx ultrawide lens, and a 10Mpx selfie camera on the inner display. Instead of new hardware, Samsung opted for software tricks – when shooting handheld, the improved Super Steady stabilizer with horizon lock helps, Camcorder Grip and Zoom Rocker controls turn the foldable into a small video camera, and the Mirror View function turns the outer display into a simple mirror. However, what hasn’t changed is disappointing: the battery remains at 4,300 mAh and charging at 25 W wired and 15 W wireless. While both Folds upgraded to 45 W this year, the thinnest Flip in history sticks to values Samsung has been using for years – and with a thirty-thousand-crown price tag, it’s increasingly difficult to justify. The system is powered by Android 17 with One UI 9, including Gemini Intelligence features.

Price Went Up, Trade-in Bonus Can Tame It

The basic version with 256 GB will cost 31,999 CZK, and the 512 GB variant 36,899 CZK – an increase of two, or almost four thousand, year-on-year. Samsung sweetened the deal for customers with bonuses: when trading in an old functional device, they will add 2,500 CZK to the trade-in price, and when trading in an older Galaxy Z foldable, it’s a full 5,000 CZK. In addition, there’s a 10% discount on a second wearable electronics product, a 30% discount on accessories, a 7% student discount, and six months of Google AI Pro service for free. Pre-orders are open from 3:00 PM today, and the Flip 8, along with the Folds, goes on sale on August 7th.
