Samsung’s summer unveiling marathon is slowly taking shape, and according to the latest leaks, the Koreans have prepared three foldable models. In addition to the expected Galaxy Z Fold8 and Z Flip8, a brand new device, designated as the Z Fold8 Wide, will also arrive. Photos of dummy units of all three phones have now appeared on the X network, clearly showing how they differ from each other.

Z Fold8 and Z Flip8: déjà vu in full glory

Let’s start with the less interesting part. The dummy units of the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Z Flip8 essentially confirm what earlier CAD renders suggested – Samsung does not intend to dramatically change anything in either model. The classic Fold8 looks practically indistinguishable from its predecessor, it is only said to be slightly thicker and may offer a smaller punch-hole for the front camera in the outer display.

The Z Flip8 plays the same tune, where there’s no point in expecting a design revolution either. So, if you were hoping for a bigger leap after years of gradual minor adjustments, for now it looks like another generation of the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” style. Samsung is evidently banking on the third foldable attracting the main interest this year.

Z Fold8 Wide finally brings something new

And now for the interesting part. The Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide is the first significant format change Samsung will try in this foldable series after years. According to leaked dimensions, when unfolded, it measures 123.9 × 164.4 × 4.3 millimeters, and when folded, 123.9 × 82.2 × 9.8 millimeters. The phone is thus noticeably wider and at the same time considerably shorter than the standard Fold – when folded, the dimensions are surprisingly close to the Flip 8.

The aspect ratio of both displays is key. The inner panel is expected to work with a 4:3 format, while the outer one will offer 4.7:3. If this reminds you of something, you’re not mistaken – Google went in this direction years ago with the original Pixel Fold, which was either loved or condemned precisely for its book-like dimensions. The Americans eventually abandoned the format, but Samsung is now resurrecting it, and apparently with a clear motivation: to get ahead of the upcoming foldable iPhone, which, according to available information, is expected to adopt a similar philosophy.

The unveiling of the entire trio is, according to current speculation, scheduled for July 22, 2026. If this comes to fruition, Samsung will not have two foldables at its Unpacked event this year, but three – and the question will be how the much more progressive Wide will stand up next to the refined, but already somewhat boring Fold8.

Does the wider format of the Z Fold8 Wide appeal to you more than a classic foldable?
