If I had to guess which directions Xiaomi has expanded into in recent years, I’d probably forget half the industries the Chinese giant has ventured into. Smartphones have long been just the tip of the iceberg; beneath the surface lie kitchen appliances, scooters, toothbrushes, vacuum cleaners, and now even tools. The Xiaomi Mijia Tool Kit is precisely the type of product that DIY enthusiasts and tech lovers have been ordering from Aliexpress for a few years, but Xiaomi has finally brought it to us officially.

A screwdriver that won’t disappoint even without a battery

The main draw of the entire kit is the compact electric screwdriver. On paper, it’s no miracle — a maximum torque of 4 Nm and three adjustment levels mean it’s enough for disassembling a kitchen unit, but for assembling a terrace, you’d better borrow something from Bosch. What caught my attention more, however, is the all-metal planetary gearbox. When the battery dies, you turn the handle, and the screwdriver continues to work in manual mode, where the torque jumps to 8 Nm. A small detail, but it will save your day when you forgot to charge your screwdriver.

Power is supplied by a 2000mAh battery charged via USB-C. Xiaomi promises up to 600 screws driven on a single charge, which is sufficient for months of occasional repairs. A practical detail is the integrated LED light — anyone who has ever installed a shelf in the corner of a living room wall knows why it can be extremely useful.

It’s not just a screwdriver

In addition to the electric screwdriver, Xiaomi has included 22 bits made of S2 steel (4 long 50mm and 18 short 25mm), a magnetic extension rod, and a flexible shaft for places where a classic screwdriver would get stuck. The rest of the case is filled with classic hand tools you’d expect in any home workshop: a hammer with a rubberized handle and a removable rubber cap for the head, an adjustable wrench with jaws up to 25 mm, multi-functional pliers with a spring mechanism, a three-meter self-locking tape measure with a spirit level, a set of eight hex keys from 1.5 to 8 mm, and a utility knife with carbide blades.

Who will benefit from this?

The Mijia Tool Kit doesn’t build a portfolio for a professional carpenter or electrician. It targets people who have tools scattered across three drawers at home and are constantly looking for something. For 1,399 CZK, you get a compact package that covers 90% of common situations like assembling IKEA furniture, changing batteries in a remote control, or hanging a picture. Competitive kits from Yato or Bosch in a similar configuration with an electric screwdriver tend to cost twice as much, so if you trust Xiaomi and like the minimalist aesthetic of the case, it’s a decent purchase.

Would you opt for a Xiaomi tool kit, or would you prefer an established DIY brand?
