Foldables are experiencing a second wind, and Xiaomi doesn’t want to be left behind. Before the manufacturer could officially reveal anything, key specifications of the Xiaomi Mix Fold 5 model leaked to the public. The Chinese brand will bet on a large camera, a decent battery, and its own chipset.

What we know about the Xiaomi Mix Fold 5 so far

The main attraction is expected to be both inside and out. The flexible display should be around 7.5 to 7.6 inches, and Xiaomi is reportedly implementing technology to almost completely mask the crease in the fold – precisely the issue that has long marred the impression of foldable phones. According to leaker Digital Chat Station, the back will feature a main sensor with a resolution of 200 megapixels, which is an impressive number for a thin foldable.

The second good news is battery life. The battery is expected to have a capacity of around 6000 mAh, which is above average for a foldable phone, and wireless charging should also be present. The phone will read fingerprints from the side button, and full water resistance is also expected – still a rarity among foldables. However, all of the above is based on a single leak so far, so the final figures could still change.

Proprietary Xring chip instead of Snapdragon?

The most interesting detail concerns the phone’s core. Instead of the usual Snapdragon, the Mix Fold 5 is reportedly powered by Xiaomi’s proprietary Xring series chip, which the brand is said to be working on. If confirmed, this would be another step for the manufacturer towards self-sufficiency in the processor field. However, how such a chip will perform in a top-tier foldable is still largely unknown – proprietary silicon is one thing, optimized performance and consumption are another.

Price and availability

The leak also mentions the price: the basic version is expected to cost around 31,000 CZK, specifically around 10,000 yuan in China (approximately 1,400 dollars). Whether the phone will appear in the Czech Republic this time has not been stated yet (and it is rather unlikely), and a specific launch date is also missing.
