Xiaomi launched powerful smartwatches for children. You can reportedly find your child with them, even if they run out of battery.

Smartwatches have become the first “phone” and a link to parents for many children. Xiaomi, under the Redmi brand, is now raising the bar – the Redmi Kids Watch Pro promises to help you find your child even when they are turned off.

This is by no means the brand’s first attempt. Last March, for example, we wrote about the basic Redmi Kids Watch model, which launched in China at roughly a third of the Pro model’s price. For the more expensive variant, the manufacturer is now adding more powerful localization, a second camera, and higher durability.

They reportedly locate the child even after being turned off

The main attraction is the location that the watch reports even when turned off. Redmi states that they share the child’s location for up to five days after being completely turned off – they send the signal via surrounding Xiaomi devices in the so-called Find network, similar to Apple Find My. This is a manufacturer’s claim that we cannot independently verify, but the principle works similarly to tracking chips.

Inside buildings, the third generation of the AI-powered positioning system is designed to help. According to Redmi, it updates the location every second and can recognize not only the building but also the specific floor, metro station, or regular route to school.

Two cameras are included

The second new feature is two five-megapixel cameras. One sits above the display for video calls and selfies, while the other flips out from the back of the watch body and points away from the child, so it can also photograph what the little wearer has in front of them.

The display has a diagonal of 1.68 inches and a resolution of 360 × 390 pixels, with 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of storage inside.

What else do the watches monitor besides location?

In addition to movement, they also monitor health. They can measure heart rate and blood oxygen saturation, offer 18 sports modes, and five fitness tests.

Safety features also cater to parents. When the child approaches water – a pond, pool, or river – the watch itself sends an alert to the parental app. School mode automatically turns off distracting functions during lessons, and through the app, you can set screen time limits and who the child can message via WeChat or QQ. According to the manufacturer, the entire body can withstand immersion up to 20 meters.

For now, they remain only in China

Redmi set the price at 1,199 yuan, approximately 3,800 CZK; during the initial sale, the watches could be purchased for less, at 1,045 yuan (around 3,300 CZK). They are sold exclusively in China via the JD.com e-shop, and the brand has not yet mentioned a launch in other countries. Redmi children’s watches have never officially made it to the Czech Republic, so I wouldn’t bet much on this version arriving.
