Google Home Speaker is already available for pre-order on Alza for 2,999 CZK. But it won't speak Czech

Last autumn, Google officially unveiled the Home Speaker, designed for the Gemini AI assistant, and last week it finally launched pre-orders in selected markets. There was no indication that we would be able to purchase it in the Czech Republic, but now the new product is available for pre-order on Alza for 2,999 CZK. The catch, however, is that Czech is missing among the first ten supported languages, so the main attraction – conversations with Gemini – will not be appreciated here without knowledge of another language.

It won’t be officially available in the Czech Republic, but Alza is offering it anyway

Google “re-introduced” the speaker last Wednesday and launched pre-sales in nearly twenty countries. The Czech Republic was not among them, so it seemed that obtaining it would be more problematic for local interested parties. However, it has now appeared in Alza’s offer, which has launched pre-orders for it at 2,999 CZK.

In the USA, the speaker costs 99 dollars, which is approximately 2,100 Czech crowns when converted. The Czech price is noticeably higher, which is not uncommon for new products imported via a distributor.

What can the Google Home Speaker do?

The Google Home Speaker features a round body with 360° sound and an LED ring that signals when the device is listening. On the bottom, you’ll find a physical microphone switch – with one movement, you can disconnect them when you don’t want the speaker to listen.

However, the main star is the Gemini assistant. According to Google, it can handle fluid two-way conversation (with an active Gemini subscription), manage multi-step instructions, and even describe what Nest cameras have captured. Additionally, you can pair two speakers with a Google TV Streamer for a surround sound home theater.

Czech is missing among the supported languages

The fundamental problem is the lack of Czech language support. Gemini for Home understands only ten languages at launch: English, Italian, French, German, Spanish, Danish, Dutch, Japanese, Norwegian, and Swedish.

In practice, this means that the speaker’s main attraction – natural conversation with Gemini – can only be used in a foreign language here. You will likely be able to manage basic smart home control, but a full-fledged AI assistant in Czech is currently out of the question. Google has not specified when, or if ever, Czech will be added.
