Last year, Apple shook up its lineup — it canceled the Plus version, introduced the ultra-thin iPhone Air model, and significantly upgraded the base iPhone 17. And it is precisely this model that appears to be the most reasonable choice for most people. The iPhone 17 with 256GB storage can now be purchased in the Czech Republic from 19,412 CZK.

Quick summary:
Makes sense if you want an iPhone with modern features without having to pay for Pro models. Finally, even the base iPhone has a 120Hz ProMotion display, Always-on function, and 3,000 nits of brightness.
⚠️ Consider that a telephoto lens is missing — if you take a lot of zoomed-in photos, a Pro model is a better choice. And Apple Intelligence in the Czech Republic has still not reached full functionality.
💡 For 19,412 CZK, you get a 6.3″ OLED display with 1–120 Hz ProMotion, an A19 chip, 256 GB storage, a pair of 48Mpx cameras (main + ultrawide), Ceramic Shield 2, an 18Mpx selfie camera with Center Stage, and up to 30 hours of video playback battery life.

What’s worth noting

This year, Apple introduced a big change to the base iPhone — a ProMotion display with an adaptive refresh rate of 1–120 Hz. It took four years for this feature to make its way from Pro models to the base iPhone, and finally, we also have an Always-on display, where you can see the time and notifications without having to wake up the phone. The brightness reaches 3,000 nits, and the surface has an anti-reflective coating — in practice, this means you truly have no problem seeing the screen in direct sunlight. Additionally, the display has grown from 6.1″ to 6.3″, and the bezels are surprisingly thin.

The second major upgrade is the camera. Apple doubled the resolution of the ultrawide sensor from 12 to 48 Mpx — now you have two 48Mpx cameras on the back (main + ultrawide). The selfie camera received 18Mpx resolution and the Center Stage feature, which automatically frames group shots and can even rotate the orientation from portrait to landscape without needing to turn the phone. Also new is Dual Capture — simultaneous recording from both the front and rear cameras, which you’ll appreciate at concerts or while traveling.

Also important is the 256GB storage as standard — Apple finally dropped the 128GB starting variant, so you get double the space for the same price. And battery life has significantly improved according to tests — the iPhone 17 can easily handle 1.5 days of normal use.

What to expect

Unlike Pro models, a telephoto lens is missing here — the maximum the phone can handle is 2× zoom from the main sensor. If you take a lot of zoomed-in photos, Pro models are a better choice. The A19 processor is slightly weaker compared to the A19 Pro in more expensive models, but you won’t notice the difference in everyday use. Benchmarks show that the iPhone 17 outperforms the entire iPhone 16 series, including the Pro Max variant.

Is the lowest possible price more important to you for an iPhone, or would you pay extra for a Pro model for the telephoto lens?
