Motorola is preparing its own Ultra watch. Galaxy Watch have an unexpected rival

Motorola has long existed more formally in the smartwatch market. This year’s Moto Watch is a decent but undemanding piece for a price around four thousand and moreover, it doesn’t support LTE. Leaked images suggest that the company is preparing something significantly more ambitious – a model with the moniker Ultra, which dares to venture into Samsung’s and Apple’s territory.

What the photos show

The images show a round display surrounded by a numbered bezel, a prominent rotating crown at two o’clock, and another button at four o’clock. The body is said to be 46 millimeters, which would make it the only size in the Ultra series – exactly how Samsung and Apple handle their most durable models.

The inscriptions on the back reveal the most. The watch has built-in GPS, LTE, IP68 rating, and water resistance up to fifty meters. LTE is precisely the most important item on the entire list, as it is what the current Moto Watch lacks, and without it, the watch is always just a phone accessory. There is also a larger optical sensor module on the back for measuring health data. The photos show a black leather strap with red stitching and a red inner side.

Where sources contradict each other

And now, carefully. One source speaks of a stainless steel case, the other of an aluminum frame – a difference that determines both the impression and the price of premium watches. No one has yet resolved the contradiction.

Even more significant is the question of software. According to one report, the watch will run on Motorola’s proprietary RTOS-type system, not Wear OS. If this were true, it would mean a clear division of roles: longer battery life in exchange for the absence of an application ecosystem. For some customers, this is a win; for others, a significant obstacle. And if a product labeled Ultra is to compete with the Galaxy Watch Ultra, the missing applications will be the first thing competitors bring up in any comparison.
