New Huawei phones might solve your biggest photography problem

On my last vacation, I confirmed again that while I love photographing everything around me, I hate taking pictures of myself. How should I turn? Should I put on a serious expression or a smile? And what about my hands? If you’re in a similar situation, Huawei might save us. The new Huawei Pura 90 series will come with a feature that, with the help of artificial intelligence, will advise on how to pose for a given shot.

AI that will turn you into a model

The feature, which Huawei will apparently call AI Posture Recommendation, analyzes the scene in the viewfinder in real-time and renders a body outline with a short instruction on the display. Just align yourself with it and press the shutter. It works with both the front and rear cameras, so you can use it for selfies and classic shots. And if you’re confident, you can simply turn it off – it’s fully optional.

In the promo video, Huawei humorously pokes fun at the fact that the vast majority of people pull out the classic two-finger “V” sign in photos. And I’m probably one of them too…

A different approach than Pixel 10

Google is trying to address a similar problem with the Camera Coach feature in Pixel 10, which uses AI to advise on composition, angle, and framing. The significant difference, however, is who the new feature helps. Google tries to make you a better photographer, while Huawei takes the opposite approach and focuses on the person standing in front of the lens. In the age of Instagram and TikTok, this is an approach that might appeal to more people.

When will we see the new feature

Huawei will officially unveil the Pura 90 series tomorrow, April 20, in China. In addition to the posing assistant, it is also expected to bring 3D dynamic photos, which, thanks to depth information, appear almost three-dimensional and react to tilting the phone. However, we cannot currently confirm whether the new models will also reach our market.
