Popular Good Lock breaks Samsung's Edge panel. The manufacturer admitted the bug

The Edge panel is one of the few things Samsung came up with on its own and kept it sensible. Swiping from the edge brings up favorite apps, contacts, or Smart Select. For some users, however, it has stopped responding – and the culprit is neither competition nor a system error, but another Samsung application.

Two features, the same few millimeters of glass

On July 28, a user described the problem on the Samsung community forum: swiping from the edge stopped bringing up the Edge panel on the home screen, while it continued to work within a running application. Turning the panel off and on again resolved the issue, but only for a few hours.

The next day, a moderator responded on behalf of the development team, apologized, and directly named the cause: it’s due to the One Hand Operation Plus module, which incorrectly recognizes the grab area of the Edge panel. The fact that the admission came from the people who develop the application themselves adds weight to it.

The essence of the conflict is trivial and therefore somewhat comical. One Hand Operation Plus turns the display edges into swipe-controlled shortcuts – flashlight, quick settings, back step. The Edge panel does the same from the same spot. Both features want the same few millimeters of glass, and the Edge panel should take precedence. Now it doesn’t.

What to do until the fix is released

Samsung offered two temporary solutions. The first is a bit strange but works: open an app that supports screen rotation, rotate the phone to landscape and back, then return to the home screen. The second is more systematic – in the module’s settings, adjust the gesture area so it doesn’t conflict with the Edge panel.

The last option is to temporarily disable the module. However, for many people, this is not a solution, as the combination of both makes sense on large displays. Decide based on which you use more.

Samsung promised to incorporate a permanent fix into the next update of the One Hand Operation Plus application, but did not specify a date. According to reports on social media, the bug appears across models regardless of whether they are running One UI 8 or the One UI 9 beta – however, not all testers confirm it, so it apparently doesn’t affect everyone.
