Opening a banking app on a crowded tram without having to worry if people around you are reading your balance over your shoulder – that’s precisely what Privacy Display is for. This feature was previously only offered by the most expensive Galaxy S26 Ultra, but according to a fresh leak, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S27 Pro will also get it.

How Privacy Display works on Samsung Galaxy S27 Pro

Privacy Display is a hardware solution – it works directly at the panel level, not like a software filter you enable in settings. In practice, it significantly narrows the display’s viewing angles: you see the screen perfectly normally from the front, but a person sitting or standing next to you will only see a darkened area. This means you don’t have to tilt your phone towards your body when paying or texting in public.

Samsung will likely not be the only manufacturer to offer this feature. Rival Xiaomi is reportedly preparing its own response within its HyperOS overlay.

From Ultra’s privilege to a feature for more models

Until now, the hardware Privacy Display was reserved only for the absolute most expensive Samsung model and debuted on this year’s Galaxy S26 Ultra. However, according to insider Digital Chat Station, the next generation will expand its availability: in addition to the Galaxy S27 Ultra, it is also expected to appear on the Galaxy S27 Pro with a 6.47″ display. Furthermore, the manufacturer reportedly wants to keep this technology to itself and not supply it to competitors (such as Apple, for whom it manufactures displays) for now.

Where the Galaxy S27 Pro fits in and when it will arrive

The Galaxy S27 Pro is expected to be a compact flagship with Ultra-level features, just without the S Pen stylus. Besides the Privacy Display, it is rumored to have a 5,000 mAh battery and a trio of cameras similar to those on the Ultra. Samsung usually introduces its most expensive phones around late January and early February, so expect the premiere of the entire Galaxy S27 series likely in early 2027.

Would you be tempted by the option to hide your display from curious onlookers?
