Xiaomi is clearly set to disrupt its established calendar. While models with the letter T traditionally hit the market in September as an autumn refresh of the lineup, this year it looks like a drastic acceleration. The Xiaomi 17T has just passed through the Geekbench AI testing sieve, and it seems it’s only a few weeks away from going on sale. If foreign sources’ speculations come true, we’ll see it as early as May.

Geekbench revealed the chip and RAM

The phone is hidden in the database under the model designation 2602DPT53G, which, according to available leaks, is the upcoming Xiaomi 17T. Under the hood, it is expected to feature the MediaTek Dimensity 8500 chipset – this information appeared in earlier leaks and is now confirmed by Geekbench. The Chinese manufacturer added 12 GB of RAM and pre-installed Android 16, which is a pleasant standard for a May new release.

Specifically, in Geekbench AI tests, the phone scored 1,017 points in single precision, 1,329 points in half precision, and a quantized score of 1,124 points. These numbers suggest a decent improvement over its predecessor, although let’s not be under any illusions – the Dimensity 8500 remains in the upper-mid-range category and doesn’t compete with flagship processors.

Bigger battery, but charging is a mystery

Perhaps the most interesting piece of information, however, concerns the battery. According to leaks, the Xiaomi 17T is expected to get a 6,500 mAh battery, which is a significant leap compared to the usual five thousand mAh today. The catch is how you’ll replenish that energy – wired charging is expected to remain at 67 watts. Meanwhile, last year’s Xiaomi 15T supports 90W charging.

Camera inherited from predecessor, expect novelties elsewhere

If you were hoping that Xiaomi would use the accelerated schedule to refresh the optics, I’m afraid I’ll disappoint you. According to available information, the camera setup will remain practically unchanged – the Xiaomi 17T will inherit the configuration from the 15T, including the main sensor and telephoto lens. Innovations will thus primarily revolve around the chipset and battery life; the manufacturer has apparently reserved optics for higher-end models and larger generational leaps.

Moving the premiere to May means that Xiaomi will shorten the 15T’s lifecycle to roughly eight months, which is extremely short for this series. Besides the 17T, a more expensive 17T Pro variant is also expected, but specific benchmark leaks for it are still missing. Hopefully, that will change in the coming weeks – there shouldn’t be much time left until the official unveiling.

Do you like that Xiaomi is betting more on a larger battery than on faster charging?
