For two years, Pocket 3 was so in demand that it was sometimes hard to get. Now Pocket 4 is on the market, and the older model has consequently dropped to a price it has never been before. You can now buy DJI Osmo Pocket 3 for 8,490 CZK instead of 13,990 CZK. And as is often the case with DJI, the generational leap is smaller than the successor’s price tag would suggest.

What still makes Pocket 3 great

The one-inch sensor is still the same format as its successor – and it’s the main reason why Pocket 3 looks better than a phone. The three-axis mechanical gimbal smooths out walking and running in a way that no software stabilization can match, and the rotatable 2″ display can switch between portrait and landscape with a single motion, allowing you to shoot for both YouTube and TikTok from one device. Plus, face tracking keeps you in frame even when you’re behind the camera yourself.

A crucial bonus: accessories are cross-generational compatible. International reviewers have confirmed that mounts and the battery handle from Pocket 3 work on Pocket 4 – so your investment in accessories won’t go to waste, no matter what you decide.

What makes Pocket 4 better and if it’s worth the extra cost

The successor has the same size sensor, but it’s a new generation, which means specific improvements: dynamic range of 14 stops instead of 12, double ISO in night mode (25,600 vs. 12,800), and photos at 37 Mpx instead of 9.4 Mpx. Add 107 GB of built-in memory (Pocket 3 has none, it needs a card), a brighter display with 1,000 nits instead of 700, and a battery life of 240 minutes, which is an hour longer.

It sounds nice, but reviewers are sober. The difference in video quality is not substantial and mainly manifests in challenging lighting situations, such as indoors with high contrasts. So, if you primarily want stabilized video and don’t need built-in memory or excellent photos, you’ll save several thousand with the three and get ninety percent of the experience.
