Small phones usually trade compact dimensions for a smaller battery and slower charging. Xiaomi has now introduced the POCO X8s on its global website, aiming to circumvent this rule. A 6,330 mAh battery, plus 100W charging and a display with up to 3,500 nits of brightness, fit into a body less than 72 millimeters wide.

Aluminum frame, 8 mm thickness, and 187 grams weight

According to Xiaomi, the new device measures 151.1 × 71.8 × 8.06 mm and weighs 187 grams. The sides are made of a gently curved aluminum frame, and the camera island has the same color as the rest of the back, giving it a clean look. White, blue, and black colors will be available.

Compact dimensions do not mean a compromise on durability. The phone has an IP68 rating, meaning it can withstand half an hour of immersion in two meters of fresh water, according to the manufacturer. The display is protected by POCO Shield Glass, and the fingerprint is read by an ultrasonic reader hidden under the display.

Display shines up to 3,500 nits and has bezels as thin as 1.18 mm

A 6.35-inch diagonal is rather modest by today’s standards, but the AMOLED panel offers a resolution of 2,656 × 1,220 pixels and an adaptive refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz. This means it slows down when reading to save battery and speeds up when gaming. Xiaomi promises a peak brightness of up to 3,500 nits, making the image clearly visible even in direct sunlight.

The bezels around the display are only 1.18 mm, and in the evening, the panel can be dimmed down to 1 nit, according to the manufacturer, which will be appreciated by anyone reading in bed.

Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, 100W charging, and telephoto lens

Performance is handled by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chip, manufactured with a 4nm process, featuring 8 or 12 GB of RAM and 256 or 512 GB of storage. A weaker point is the older and slower UFS 2.2 storage type.

The silicon-carbon battery has a capacity of 6,330 mAh, and Xiaomi promises that it will retain at least 80% of its original capacity even after 1,600 charging cycles. You can charge it with up to 100 W, and the phone can also charge accessories like headphones via cable with 22.5 W.

On the back, you’ll find a 50Mpx main camera with stabilization, a 50Mpx telephoto lens with 2.5x optical zoom, and an 8Mpx ultrawide module. Selfies are handled by a 20Mpx camera.

Price and Availability

The POCO X8s has so far only started selling in Vietnam, where it can be pre-ordered through the brand’s official store. As reported by Notebookcheck, the version with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB storage costs 11.5 million dong there, which is approximately 9,600 CZK (converted). The model with 12 GB RAM and 512 GB will cost 14 million dong, which is about 11,700 CZK. Additionally, early customers will receive an introductory coupon, reducing the price to approximately 6,900 CZK and 8,500 CZK (converted), respectively. Deliveries will begin between November 6 and 9.

Xiaomi has not yet announced the European price or release date. However, according to GSMArena, the phone has passed certification in the EEC database, suggesting it might also reach the European market.

Those who don’t want to wait can opt for the POCO X8 Pro, which has been sold in the Czech Republic since spring. Although it’s larger (the display is 6.59 inches), it offers the same 100W charging and a 6,500 mAh battery. We wrote more about it when it arrived in the Czech Republic.

Would you buy a smaller phone, like the POCO X8s, if it arrived in the Czech Republic?
