You replace the SSD in your laptop with a larger one, and the original drive ends up in a drawer. The AXAGON EEM2-SD2 might be interesting for it: you insert it into a small enclosure, connect it via USB, and you have external storage. This model also shows the temperature and operating data of the drive on its display. It is now in stock at Alza for 659 CZK without a discount code.

Quick summary:
✅ Makes sense if: You have an M.2 SSD left over after an upgrade or you need to easily move data between drives.
⚠️ Consider: For the stated price, you are buying the enclosure itself. SSD is not included.
💡 The same EEM2-SD2 costs 738 CZK at BScom. Alza is 79 CZK cheaper; we compare prices without shipping.

A display makes more sense than a blinking indicator light

When copying a larger archive, you can monitor the SSD temperature in a graph. The screen can also display its health, operating time, and the amount of data written or read. For a drive that has already seen some use, you thus get a useful overview directly on the enclosure.

It takes both SATA and NVMe, you don’t need a screwdriver

The support for both types of M.2 SSDs, SATA and NVMe, is practical. The enclosure accepts cards with lengths of 42, 60, and 80 mm, even with chips on both sides. Before buying, it is therefore sufficient to check the specific disk format; this is not an enclosure for a standard large SATA drive.

You open the enclosure without screws, so it’s also suitable for swapping drives during data transfer. The aluminum body and the included thermal pad help dissipate heat. The package also includes a short USB-C cable with a USB-A adapter, so you can use older laptop connectors as well.

A fast SSD won’t speed up every USB port

The USB interface has a maximum of 10 Gb/s, and the manufacturer states a real throughput of around 1,000 MB/s. However, the transfer can also be limited by the inserted SSD or a slower computer port. A very fast NVMe drive will not utilize its full internal performance here; nevertheless, this speed makes good sense for transferring files from an older laptop.

Do you have any SSD left over after an upgrade that you don’t have a use for yet?
