Laptop, phone, headphones… anyone who travels to work or on holiday with this gear knows how much space it takes up in a backpack. And having a separate charger for everything is truly maddening. Alza has now discounted its GaN charger with a display for Black Friday, and the AlzaPower X480 with 65W of power costs 419 CZK instead of 649 CZK. It has never been this cheap before.

Quick summary:
✅ Makes sense if you want one charger for your phone, tablet, and a standard office laptop.
⚠️ Consider that only one device will get the full 65W, and connecting another will temporarily interrupt charging on all ports.
💡 For 419 CZK, you can get it at its lowest price ever, according to HlídačShopů’s price tracking.

Three ports, a display, and 65W for laptops too

The charger has two USB-C ports, each capable of up to 65W according to Alza, and one USB-A port with up to 60W of power. This is unusually high for a classic “A-type” port. 65W is sufficient for most office laptops and MacBook Airs, but not enough for powerful gaming laptops. Thanks to GaN technology, it remains small, weighing 117 grams.

You won’t have trouble charging an iPhone or most Android phones. However, the main attraction is the small display that shows the current charging power. You’ll immediately know if your phone is truly charging fast or if the cable is faulty.

And speaking of cables, you won’t find any in the package. For a laptop, it’s therefore worth having a quality USB-C cable that can handle at least 60W.

Power is shared, and charging is interrupted upon connection

Anyone who wants to charge three devices simultaneously should know how the charger distributes power. When all ports are connected, the top USB-C port will receive 45W according to Alza, and the remaining two ports will share 15W. Therefore, a laptop will only receive the full 65W if it’s the only device being charged.

The second thing might surprise you more. When each additional device is connected, the charger temporarily turns off all outputs for a few seconds and then re-negotiates how much power to send to each port. Alza describes this as a standard safety feature. You won’t notice anything with a phone, but according to one customer, it restarts devices like a Raspberry Pi or a webcam that are permanently connected to the charger.

Don’t expect the highest speeds even with phones that have their own fast charging, such as Xiaomi, OnePlus, or Honor. According to a customer who tested them, they charged at roughly 20 to 30W; only their original chargers can achieve full speed. For Samsung phones, Alza does not list PPS among the supported standards, which is the basis for their 45W charging.

Customers praise the display, complain about heat

On Alza, the charger has a rating of 4.5 out of 5 from 158 customers, 84% of whom recommend it, and over 5,000 units have been sold. Alza reports a complaint rate of 0.32%.

Most often, people praise the display, which glows dimly at night and isn’t distracting, and its compact dimensions for a reasonable price. Some customers, however, complain that the charger gets very hot under full load, and performance may then decrease. Several people also mention that the glossy surface scratches easily in a bag.

When to opt for a different charger

If you regularly want to charge a laptop and two phones simultaneously, the X480 will likely cause you trouble. Some customers in reviews compare it to the related charger AlzaPower X500, which, according to them, distributes power between ports more efficiently.

Owners of Xiaomi or OnePlus phones with hundreds of watts will charge faster with their original chargers. And anyone who needs constant power for a Raspberry Pi or a camera should look for a charger that doesn’t restart when another device is connected.

However, for students who carry a laptop and a mobile phone to school, or for anyone who wants one charger instead of three for travel, the X480 is a very reasonable choice at this price. On Black Friday, you can get it for 419 CZK, which is 230 CZK cheaper than it was all summer and autumn.

How many chargers do you carry with you when you travel now?
