There are still several months left until the release of Grand Theft Auto VI, but impatient players don’t want to just sit idly by. Therefore, a community project is being created on the website map.stateofleonida.net, whose interactive map already shows over 1,600 locations scattered across the fictional state of Leonida.

What does the GTA VI map show?

The project certainly didn’t come about overnight. Its author, known by the nickname Yanis, has been working on the map since spring 2025, and on June 24, he uploaded only its thirteenth version, as reported by Insider Gaming. In its current form, it offers around 1,600 markers – from roads and bridges to beaches, individual shops, hideouts, and locations for side activities.

You can navigate it much like Google Maps. Just hover over a specific point, and a detail with a description of the location will pop up. This way, individual regions of sunny Leonida can be identified – Vice City and the adjacent Keys islands are returning, and areas like Grassrivers, the swamps near Port Gellhorn, and Mount Kalaga National Park have been added.

What are fans compiling the map from?

The creators are not working with a single leaked plan, but with patiently piecing together fragments. Their main sources are official Rockstar trailers, promotional images of the Ultimate edition, and screenshots released for pre-orders. In addition, the community adds information from retail leaks.

One such leak recently caused quite a stir. The Brazilian e-shop KaBuM revealed a host of alleged details in its product description and called the game’s world the “largest and densest open world Rockstar has ever created.” We wrote about this leak in detail a few days ago.

How much can the map be trusted?

It’s good to keep your feet on the ground here. The authors calculate the position of most locations by triangulation from available footage, so the result is more of a qualified estimate than an exact plan. They themselves admit that many points are currently speculative, which will be refined with each subsequent official material – especially with the anticipated third trailer.

The map compilation fits nicely into a broader phenomenon. The community around the game can be incredibly inventive while waiting for its release – some fans, for example, remotely monitor the Rockstar building and count how many cigarettes its employees smoke.

When will GTA VI be released?

According to Rockstar, Grand Theft Auto VI is set to arrive on November 19, 2026, initially for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The PC version does not yet have a specific date. Until then, the community map will likely grow considerably – and only after the release will it become clear how close fans were with their estimates.
