Few components have persisted in Samsung watches as steadfastly as Exynos chips. Now, according to leaked materials, it seems this era is coming to an end. Images released by well-known leaker Evan Blass explicitly show the Galaxy Watch 9 with the label “Powered by Snapdragon Wear Elite”. This is not the more expensive Ultra model, but a regular one.

End of Exynos’s long reign

Qualcomm introduced the Snapdragon Wear Elite as its latest chip for smartwatches this March. It is a 3nm processor that promises higher performance and, more importantly, much more power for artificial intelligence tasks. Even then, it was rumored that Samsung would adopt it – and leaked images now confirm this. It’s a rather significant turnaround: the Galaxy Watch series has long relied exclusively on its own Exynos chips. Paradoxically, this played into their hands for some time, as Qualcomm had not been convincing in this segment for years. However, that is changing with the arrival of Wear Elite.

The million-dollar question: what to do with that performance?

What exactly Samsung will do with the newly acquired performance remains a mystery for now. A logical bet would be on expanding AI features, which the chip explicitly supports, but the Koreans are keeping specific new features to themselves. Fortunately, we won’t have to wait long. The Galaxy Watch 9 is expected to be unveiled tomorrow alongside the new generation of Galaxy foldable phones.
